The Leopard 2 was developed in the 1970s to meet the German army's need for a new modern and efficient main battle tank to replace the Leopard 1. It is armed with a 120mm cannon and reaches a top speed of 68 km/h thanks to its V-12 twin-turbo diesel engine.
Entered into service in 1979, however, it has been constantly improved in terms of technology, armament and armor and is still considered one of the best main battle tanks in the world today. The Leopard 2 A6 represents a significant improvement over previous versions. It is armed with a 120mm Rheinmetall L/55 smoothbore cannon and has modern third-generation composite armor. The additional armor elements were developed to minimize the effects of enemy hits and anti-tank weapons.
