With a top speed of Mach 2.0+, the Eurofighter is capable of long-range and close-range air combat as well as air-to-ground operations. It is designed primarily as a fighter aircraft for airspace protection and is equipped for this purpose with a mixed armament of powerful short- and medium-range air-to-air missiles.
