Το Fokker E1 ήταν το πρώτο γερμανικό αεροσκάφος που έφερε ένα συγχρονισμένο πολυβόλο, το LMG 08. Γρήγορα αναγνωρίστηκε ότι ένα υδρόψυκτο όπλο ήταν κατάλληλο σε ένα αεροσκάφος και έγιναν τροποποιήσεις ειδικά στην ψύξη της κάννης.
