Η Τριέρα είναι ο κύριος τύπος πολεμικού πλοίου της Μεσογειακής περιόδου των ελληνοπερσικών πολέμων (V-IV αι. π.Χ.). Το κύριο όπλο της τριέρας ήταν ένα χάλκινο κριάρι, η προέκταση της δοκού της καρίνας. Η ταχύτητα του πλοίου στα κουπιά ήταν έως και 18 km/h. Η τριέρα είχε ένα μεγάλο τετράγωνο πανί και ένα μικρό πανί στον κεκλιμένο ιστό στο τμήμα της πλώρης. Τα κατάρτια ήταν αφαιρούμενα. Κατά τη διάρκεια μιας μάχης η τριέρα επιτάχυνε και έτσι μπορούσε να σπάσει τα κουπιά ενός εχθρικού πλοίου που την σταματούσε. Μετά χρησιμοποίησε το κριάρι του. Το πλήρωμα του πλοίου είχε περισσότερους από 200 άνδρες, συμπεριλαμβανομένων κωπηλατών, ναυτών και οπλιτών με βαριά οπλισμό.
