Το Ilyushin IL-86 ήταν το πρώτο σοβιετικό τετρακινητήριο αεροπλάνο ευρείας ατράκτου. Σχεδιασμένο τη δεκαετία του 1970 με σκοπό να παρουσιαστεί επίσημα στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες της Μόσχας, το αεροπλάνο τέθηκε τελικά σε υπηρεσία στα τέλη του 1980. Συνολικά έχουν κατασκευαστεί 106 αεροσκάφη μέχρι το τέλος της παραγωγής το 1993, τρία από αυτά εξήχθησαν σε Κίνα. Το Il-86 απορρίφθηκε και αποσύρθηκε από την υπηρεσία από το 2001.
