Το εργοστάσιο ιδρύθηκε κατά τη διάρκεια του Β' Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου, όταν πολλά σοβιετικά εργοστάσια εκκενώθηκαν προς τα ανατολικά και επανιδρύθηκαν εκεί. Το ανθεκτικό και αξιόπιστο φορτηγό Ural διαθέτει ισχυρό κινητήρα ντίζελ και θωράκιση και μπορεί να κινείται στους περισσότερους τύπους εδάφους.
