The Greek mercenary infantry was equipped with traditional Spartan-style armor: a bronze hoplite shield and a helmet, but the Greek warriors did not wear plate armor or greave. Infantrymen used the usual spear and sword and wore a red exotnis, namely a chiton that left one shoulder bare.
